Eric Plays Baseball: Opening Day

by Jerry Pia

THE FIRST BOOK IN A NEW SERIES ABOUT YOUTH BASEBALL, Eric Plays Baseball: Opening Day is about eight-year-old Eric’s long-awaited first baseball game of the season. A true-blue baseball lover with big visions about his future, Eric dreams of baseball every night—from hitting the game-winning grand slam to striking out the last batter for the win. And now it’s Opening Day!

After Eric wakes up very early to get ready for his big day, he and his family are off to the fi eld to start the season, hoping for nice hits and a great defense. As Eric’s fellow Bombers go up against the Bluebirds, the game gets even more exciting when—with the Bombers down three to one—the fate of Opening Day is in Eric’s hands as he comes up to bat. Will he hit a grand slam to win the game? Or will the hard-throwing pitcher strike Eric out?

About Jerry Pia

Jerry Pia

Jerry Pia is a fun-loving musician and family man who lives in Connecticut with his wife and has devoted his life to children’s initiatives in his hometown. Since co-founding Activities for Kids, Inc., 35 years ago, he has served as executive director of the organization, and he has dedicated 24 years to the Stamford Board of Education. As an avid sports fan and father to two active children, it was only natural that his love of baseball led him to spend 50 years involved in various youth baseball programs, including founding the Jackie Robinson Baseball League.

Now a grandfather, Jerry has just celebrated his 50th year coaching baseball for ages 9 to 39, and with so many baseball stories to tell, Jerry started writing baseball books for children. Eric Plays Baseball: Opening Day is the first in a series of Eric Plays Baseball books. Jerry has taken the joy of watching young baseball players find their own love of the game and experience the ups and downs of playing baseball—whether it was his son and daughter, his grandchildren, or any of the 50 years of teams he coached— and put it into the colorful, vivid pages of Eric Plays Baseball: Opening Day.
